From drawing up a circular economy strategy to implementing it

Supporting an international airport in its ambition to be a pioneer in sustainable resource management

Implement the CSRD (particularly ESRS 5) and become a pioneer in the circular economy

We assisted Europe's 3rd largest airport group in implementing CSRD and selecting its material issues. Among these issues, ESRS E5 standard related to the circular economy imposes increased transparency on companies regarding their material resource management.

The airport group has proactively committed to an ambitious circular economy strategy in order to be a pioneer in these areas within its sector.

«In a context of accelerated depletion of natural resources, the circular economy represents an essential strategic response for rethinking purchasing, consumption, reuse, and other practices.»
Cécile MICHEL

Support in place

To help the airport group achieve its ambitions, we conducted a flow analysis, proposed a circular economy policy with several levels of ambition, and carried out a feasibility study for the creation of a physical reuse site.

1.
Drawing up a flow sheet
  • Mapping of incoming (purchases) and outgoing (sales, donations, waste) material flows
  • Flow-by-flow impact analysis based on the CSRD approach (assessment of impact as well as risks and opportunities)
2.
Circular economy strategy
  • Definition of 3 levels of ambition for the Group's circular economy strategy (each level is broken down into commitments and actions)
  • Modelling of financial impacts (OPEX, CAPEX, avoided purchases, revenues, carbon valuation) over 5 years for each level of ambition.
3.
Opportunity study for the creation of a re-use site
  • Diagnosis of existing reuse initiatives; Identification of reuse potential by identified source: tonnage generated, resale price, etc.,...
  • Identification of sites likely to host a reuse center Construction of a scenario-based business plan

The results

Map incoming (purchases) and outgoing (sales, donations, waste) material flows, recommend levers for buying less and better
Recommendation of a level of ambition for the circular economy strategy (to be translated into commitments and an action plan)
Identification of 4 priority deposits, recommendation to implement a pilot project

And tomorrow?

Eurogroup Consulting is now rolling out the first experiments in inter-departmental regulation. This approach consists of organizing "solidarity" between departmental platforms in the event of an overload of activity or a specific difficulty (platform crash, etc.).
