This report provides insights into the performance of European banks and a snapshot of how ESG can stimulate the long-term performance of the sector.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-96f1713 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"96f1713\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>HOW DID EUROPEAN CIBs FARE IN 2023?<\/h2><hr style=\"border: 0; height: 2px; background-color: #00ade9; margin: 0 0 2em 0;\" \/><p>European Corporate and Investment Banks (CIBs) managed to maintain positive performance metrics throughout the year. Despite significant global macro-instability, cost\/income (C\/I) ratios remained relatively consistent with previous years.  European CIBs also managed to retain solid capital and liquidity positions, while experiencing top-line revenue growth.<\/p><ul><li style=\"margin-bottom: 0.5em;\">C\/I ratios only experienced an 1% deterioration from H1'21 to H1'Q23.<\/li><li style=\"margin-bottom: 0.5em;\">8.6% increase in top-line revenue of European CIBs over the last two years.<\/li><li style=\"margin-bottom: 0.5em;\">RoRWA of European CIBs increased by 5.8% between H1'22 and H1'23<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5b17d16 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5b17d16\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>TO ESG AND BEYOND<\/h2><hr style=\"border: 0; height: 2px; background-color: #00ade9; margin: 0 0 2em 0;\" \/><p>Recent shocks in the macro-financial environment and backlash have recently turned the market away from ESG to focus on short-term considerations. However, ESG has never gone out of fashion.
